Post subject:  Words of John Adams about the second day of July.

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever."
--Adams wrote this in a letter to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776.

In case I wasn't the only one out there left feeling stupid, um, I mean, uninformed about the date - the above link explains the date difference.

(my apologies in advance for the inappropriate language in the link)

FYI and not of great significance, but fun family history... John Adams and John Quincy Adams are my Grandfathers with a few greats in front of that. :D

How stinkin' cool is THAT! I love the Adam's family! I've listened to John Adams biography and I think he's a very interesting person that seemed to love the Lord.

Pam, then you belong to the daughters of the war of independence!

As I was reading that quote, I remembered seeing all the fireworks going off in the distance (our house is in a shallow valley) it did look like 'illuminations' were being fired off everywhere.
