If one of my kids is adamant that he doesn't need to fold his clothes before putting them away, should I force him to? He says they just get unfolded in his drawers, anyways, when he shuffles them around looking for something. The other child doesn't fold hers, either, but she hangs most of them in her closet. Am I contributing to the next lazy generation if I let it slide?

BTW, this same kid spent about 20 minutes yesterday, searching for a clean spoon, instead of just washing one.

Underwear - yes.
Clothes - no.

Leaving them unfolded creates bad wrinkles.

I'd give him the option of hanging them up like his sister does : )

Altho - I have to admit - I still fold DD's clothes FOR her most of the time. I think it has to be done - but I don't necessarily think the kid has to do all of it him/her self. But, I don't think it should become the starting point for defiance, either.

If the two of you do this task TOGETHER every few days, it may make it a little less burdensome.

Thanks, I try to have a group folding session, lol, but it doesn't usually work out that way. I will try to make it work, though. He didn't used to give me such a hard time about folding laundry and there's no reason he can't do it, it's just laziness. He doesn't care about wrinkles, cleanliness, or even if it fits!

I saw a cool idea on the internet a while back - someone put two tension rods at waist height in their closet, and simply laid their clothes (folded in half) over it. If they needed to look thru the stack, they just flipped the stack from one rod to the other. It looked very lazy, and very cool : )

But, I can't find the pictures : (

I've been searching for them for you!

But, don't worry too much about the kids being eternally lazy - as long as they're willing to work in OTHER areas (school, helping neighbors, moving tables at Church, etc)

Kids this age are notoriously unconcerned about personal hygiene & appearance - most of them change on their own when they hit their teens : )

Not sure about this supplier, but here is a shirt folder. My oldest DD loves this. Kind of making a necessary chore a little quicker and fun.

We try to have plenty of hooks for dgs to hang things on. He can get about 3 things on each hook. I use hooks for clothes i've worn but aren't dirty. I'd say hang shirts on hooks, fold pants in half and all's good with life. :)

*I* use hooks for *MY* clothes cause I'd rather not refold them after wearing them once ; )

I would give him clothes hangers to hang his clothes., Tell him they will be nice and neat when he needs them and he will look nice and not like he slept in his clothes. It might motivate him,

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AQGVICBRi ... xxF8UDdiE/ You could try this method, if you have the room, or

or

Not "makeup" but shoes and other accessories like belts and ties...

http://www.homeizy.com/girls-dorm-room-ideas/ Ignore the girls dorm room wording. But scroll down about half way through this page and see the shirts are angling downward from one hanger or link. You can use shower curtain rings for this. My dd did this in her first dorm room and she was able to hold a lot of clothes in a tiny space.

I agree with the other post, hang up shirts and fold the jeans/pants. Or if you have enough closet space, then you can buy hooks for jeans/pants as well, and hook them by the belt loops.

Great ideas, thank you! I'm not sure if I'll even be able to get him to hang things up, but I'll try.
