I use the online banking to transfer between accounts. to check to see what checks are out and what are not. Soon you will not be able to have an account with out it being online. I guarantee his is online, he just has not accessed it. never heard of a bank nowadays not having online access, I have used ours for 10yrs or longer. A lot of banks do not send out statements anymore, that is another reason for the online banking to save them paper. I donot know how he will find out account balances, etc without him being registered on his account on line.

Our bank did get hacked a few years ago but they knew it, informed everyone and the money was put back in a few days. they also paid the fees for money drawn from accounts and there being none in there for the over drawn fees. You do have insurance there. but you also have to keep up with it. Dd doesnot have a checking account. she has a savings account, we put money in. She pays cash for gas for the car. I pay with debit card for her tuition and books. It is easier to pay the tuition with the card on line rather than stand in a line for hours to pay it at the bursers offices.

Yes, they set up an on-line account, but he would have to activate it; which he isn't going to do. They gave him a paper with the account number and access code. He shredded that paper when he got home.
Our bank issues statements. I will be teaching him how to check his check register against the bank's statement. I was a bookkeeper for many years and have always preferred doing things the old fashion way (so much easier to find and rectify errors) vs. computers.
