For years now, when people ask DD if she likes homeschooling, she's told them a flat-out "no"

Having never been to traditional school, she's been certain that all THEY do all day is play - while she's the one working. And, it doesn't help that so many videos portray it that way!

But, recently, she's been thinking differently - in part due to a public school friend who constantly tells her how lucky she is, and how the friend wishes HER Mom would homeschool her - and partly because of meeting with more success in difficult lessons, and a general maturity increase.

Anyway, recently another kid asked her "On a scale of 1-10, how do you like homeschooling?" She replied "10. No, a 7 or 8 . . . ." : )

Then, today, a new acquaintance asked her if she liked being homeschooled, and she replied with a simple "Yes."

:D :D :D :D :D :D

That's great! But how offensive that people even ask her that! I don't think my kids have ever been asked if they like homeschooling, but I think they are pretty indifferent about it. They never mention wishing they were in school, which is a good thing, because these days I would gladly put them there!

I'm not at all offended if people ask - especially if they're kids.

When I was a kid people always asked me if I liked school - I think it's just how people try to make conversation with a kid they're just meeting. And, I suppose there's a bit of curiosity there, too - if homeshooling is a new idea for them.

Many times people ask ME if she likes homeschooling - in the past I've just laughed and said, "Of course not! What kid likes school? Of course she'd rather be playing or watching videos!" But, now I might have to change my answer :)

I wouldn't mind a kid asking it, or someone asking me about it, but asking my kids if they like it, would seem probing. If a kid says they don't like school, people think that's normal and laugh it off, but they are more likely to find fault with homeschooling, if the child doesn't like it, and maybe it would give the child the impression if they are not happy being homeschooled, then maybe they would like school better. Or maybe I just think too much into things.
