How do y'all tackle the everyday cleaning-type chores? Do you just clean as the Spirit moves, or do you have a system?

I am TRYING a new "system" but don't know how long I'll last! I've divided up the house so that we do a major room or area each day of the week. (Not counting our bedrooms....and this also does not include chores like cooking or laundry....just cleaning.)

Anyway, yesterday we cleaned the living room. It is a very large room with two picture windows and a glass door (all of which were cleaned inside AND out). Floors vacuumed and damp mopped (they are hardwood, so I used a sponge mop with a solution of water and vinegar), baseboards and window sills wiped and cleaned; furniture dusted, etc. I was pooped, but it sure looks nice. We did the same with the Dining Room today, but it was easier. Only one picture window and one glass door. Not as much furniture, but two built in shelves with lots of "stuff" to take down and clean. Still, it wasn't as hard.

Tomorrow is the kitchen. I may not make it!

I am hoping though, that if we get into a routine of doing it regularly, we won't have to clean as much or as "hard." I like it when the house is really clean.

We also have a van-load of stuff to take to Goodwill today. And that always makes me feel good! :D

But I need a nap now. :D

I have been doing like:
Monday: sweep and mop kitchen floor and clean off counter tops .
Tuesday:vacuum house sweep floors. and dust
Wednesday: straighten up rooms by picking up papers, magazines put shoes, socks etc back where they belong.
Thursday: change sheets on beds and replace with clean ones and once a month wash the spread .
Friday: clean out ice box get rid of old food, see what needs to be replace when grocery shopping.
Saturday: not a lot vacuum again,
Sunday Nothing.

That's a good plan, Linda. I'm going to file this idea away and may put it to use if my new "system" doesn't work. :D I just do better and get more accomplished if I have some sort of plan. If I don't have a plan, I end up getting very little, to nothing, done.

I have no system at this time. I just clean as needed. I do try to stay on top of things but as much running as I do it does get hard. I used to write down everything I did in the day. That was and encouragement for me that I did accomplish something and kept me busy. I will sometimes make a list of what I want to do and try to get it all marked off.

See... I am a mess. lol

My plan has not been consistent with anything. We used to have Fridays were chore day, where each person had a zone of the house that they were responsible for. There are 3 of us in on this plan, so we each had a bathroom, a bedroom, and one or two other rooms (including laundry room, entry...) so the whole house got vacuumed, dusted, decluttered and put to rights once a week. Then we just picked up after ourselves the rest of the week to help eliminate a big cleaning day on fridays. Now, deep cleaning usually took place when we had a showing since our house was on the market 3 years. Now that we are not on the market, deep cleaning happens when I get a burr in my bonnet which hasn't happened in a while. Needs to be done soon though, so will go room by room at that time and get all things really clean.

Since I just put in a resume for a full time job last night, if I get the position, we will re-evalutate the who, what and when of the day to day cleaning. Right now, we are sorting through more stuff and the place is a mess!!! I have a goal to have all things sorted, cleaned, and things loaded for donation by tomorrow. Today is the final sorting day if all goes well.

Since most of the messes around here are made by the kids, most of my cleaning involves getting onto them about putting their stuff away. As long as I keep on top of that, it doesn't get too bad. I've tried following a cleaning schedule, but never stick to it. I sweep the kitchen as needed, usually every other day and usually mop/vacuum once a week on Fri or Sat. I try to keep the kitchen counters decluttered. Clutter that I'm not ready to get rid of yet, I put in drawers in our bedroom. Everything else pretty much gets cleaned on a whim. When an area is starting to look bad, I clean it. This whole house is going to be spotless before the baby gets here, though, because who knows when the next thourough cleaning will be after that.

Sometimes I ask why we had to get such a big house with 3 bathrooms! It's just more to clean! But I've been making the kids do more, like ds emptying the trash can in their bathroom, dd wiping down counters, etc. so that helps.

I USED to have a chart similar to what Linda is doing. I had a specific list of chores for each day. Laundry was also done on a rotation.
My house was clean then, baby!!
But then things began to slide due to my health and other things going on. I let the chore list go.
Big mistake.
I want to get back to that. I do much better with a scheduled plan.
This flying by the seat of my pants and nagging the dc to get their chores done is a waste.
Perhaps with my dc starting school today, I can also start my chore list today, too!

I want to have everything on a schedule but I have a hard time sticking to schedules, mostly because not everyone agrees with me on things, lol

I can write out plenty of schedules that look great though on paper, :-)

Laura, you crack me up. I'm with you and Anna though, I'm a great planner, but things in life (including me) derail my creative efforts. ;)

Today I will finish sorting through all the stuff in the old craft room and get it cleared out!!! That is my one and only item on my HAVE TO DO list today. Everything else that gets done is bonus. LOL
