My ds has an ulcer in his mouth. My OTHER ds had one last week, but it's going away, however, this ds's seems to be getting worse.
I've had him use Silver Shield and also we have ulcer ointment that he puts on it at night.
What else can he do?
I have never had them, praise God! But my ds's both get them.
This is the worst one yet, though.

Avoid acid foods till they're gone (I get them from pineapple, tomatoes, & citrus especially, so they aggravate them for me)

I've heard to hold Pepto-Bismol (that is the name for that pink liquid for acid stomachs, isn't it? Am I thinking of the wrong thing?) against the sore spot for about a minute for a quick relief to begin healing, but haven't had the chance to try that out yet.

And, I have this suspicion that dental work sometimes starts them. But, that's just my hunch from personal experience - no science behind it.

I've never heard of a mouth ulcer before, but it sounds painful! Is it like a canker sore? Is it on the inside or outside?

Salt water rinse maybe?

When my dh gets a mouth ulcer, he eats salsa. The first couple bites sting, but he swears it works LOL!

get a bottle of L-Lysine, they are huge pills , take two and then two about 8 hrs later it will be gone in a day or so.
My dentist recommended this to me years ago and it works.

I've heard of L-Lysine for cold sores (external), but not for Canker sores (internal).

Maybe we all need to clarify which one?

L-Lysine can be found at any health food store in the Amino Acids section. Places like Whole Foods probably have it, too.

Ds's is on the inside of his mouth. It's not a cold sore, we've always called them mouth ulcers, but I have heard them called canker sores, too.
It's inside on his lower cheek (below the lip) and his tooth rubs it. :(

Any store that carries vitamins should have l-lysine. Salt water rinses are great, or simply rub salt on the sore. It stings a little but does help them heal faster.

Well, I checked my book and sure enough, they DO recommend L-Lysine for Canker sores! Shows what I know.

Also suggested: a rinse of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide & 1/2 water to reduce infection. Acidophilus & Bifidus. Chewing Folic Acid pills (400 mcg, 3 times a day). Licorice tea (I'm a big fan of Stash Licorice Spice Tea : ) (don't use licorice if you have high blood pressure, tho)
