Dd and I get canker sores on the gums. I don't know what causes them and it never occurred to me to do anything about them. We just wait for them to go away. I don't think they ever turn into ulcers, though, they're just a bump on the gums.

I've never heard of using L-lysine for canker sores, either.

My Meadow gets these things all the times. Very interesting thread. Useful information shared here, as always! I know how painful they are Tory! Let us know if you try something new that works!

L-Lysine! My son gets mouth ulcers and he keeps some of this on hand all the time...he starts taking it just as soon as he feels one coming on. Also, rinse the mouth out with hydrogen peroxide several times a day. It oxygenates the sore, and those sores cannot survive in oxygen. That also really helps speed the healing.

Tory , any store in the vitamin isle.
I used to get those painful sores under my tongue and now when I do get one I use the L Lysine and it goes away in a day or two and stays away.
Let me know how it goes

I haven't had one in years but I always used tea tree oil on them. It seemed to take away the sting a bit and clear them up pretty fast. The taste... well, it's an acquired thing. ;-) You just to wipe it on the ulcer with your finger.

When I was subpenaed to court, I was so nervous I broke out with EIGHT of those all at once! That was most miserable. I wanted to FINE THEM for making me go thru that. sigh

I found the hydrogen peroxide.. I knew I had some but it was put in a different place than where I normally keep it. SO.. I now have that for ds to rinse with (will half it with water).
We just got back from from buying the L-lysine. He's taking that now.
:)

Ok.. he just brought me the pills to look at, they are huge!!! lol!
I told him to get it down somehow...

I told you they were huge, break them in half and swallow two pills with lots of water and take two more in the morning and he should be better by Monday if not sooner.

I use the peroxide straight...not watered down. It doesn't taste totally disgusting, but it doesn't taste so great, either. And it will make you foam at the mouth!
