Xavier.

It is dh's suggestion and honestly, I'm not thrilled with it, but after mulling it over and researching it online, I am content with it and it's growing on me. We haven't really been talking about names because he has still been pushing for his name. This is the first name he has suggested and I like it a LOT better than his name. I got the name I absolutely LOVED with dd, which he wasn't thrilled about, so I think it is fair that he gets a name he loves, too. I know how badly he wanted his name and do feel bad about it, but I just couldn't do it. Don't know about a middle name yet.

Dh wants to pronounce it EX-A-VEE-ER and that's also the way I like to pronounce it, although I've read online that that's not the proper way to pronounce it. It's a versatile name that people of every color have and a lot of people say they love it and think it's a strong and masculine name. I've heard several different meanings for it and am a little confused about that but I think they're all good meanings.

So, overall I'm happy about it. I was starting to wonder if this baby would have a name before he's born!

Well, you know me - I can't hear a name without thinking of the Saint with the name : )

I didn't know much about St. Francis Xavier (He's Catholic rather than Orthodox) so did a search - sounds like his story will be a great one to have associated with your son. St. Francis Xavier gave his whole life to missions - mainly in Asia, and is said to have converted more people to Christianity than anyone since St. Paul! I know missions are close to your heart, so this sounds like a win-win choice of name.

I was counting on you to tell me about the saint with that name, lol! I read that there is a St. Xavier University in Chicago, too. Not sure if it's named after the same person, though.

That's a good name! I like it. :0) I've run into a few of those in Sea Cadets, but they've always been pronounced Zah-vee-er. I have heard it pronounced the way you mentioned as well.

I like it. My son's name is Xander...pronounced with a "Z."

I like it, too!!! (Although I will confess to preferring the ZAY-vee-er pronunciation). It goes very well with your other kids' names.

I really like it and I like the way your dh wants to pronounce it.

That's funny, my mom had suggested Zander, but dh shot that down.

I think there is three ways to pronounce it, with an ex, with a ks, or with a z. I've always pronounced it with a ks. Luckily, they all sound close enough that I don't think it will be a big deal if someone says it different than we do and we still have a little time to test it out and change our minds on the pronounciation.
