We took a vacation for the first time in 14 years. We've had some long and short trips over the years to weddings/funerals/family emergencies/helping others out, but no planned trip for our own enjoyment. We went from CO through NE to Council Bluffs, IA to visit my dh's Dad and stepMom. We then went through IA and visited my best friend, two of my Aunts and Uncles, then stopped for a family reunion for my Dad's side of the family. We had not been to one in 11 years, just before we moved to CO. We then went up to MN for the Mall of America since our 2 youngest were too young to remember time there when we lived 20 minutes from the MOA. We then went from MN to SD to Mount Rushmore and Evan's Plunge (a wonderful hotsprings pool). We then traveled back home.

We were gone 6 days. We saw everyone we had hoped to see and went everywhere we had planned on going. It was great seeing family and friends that we had not seen in years. The drives through NE and SD were LONG and the mountains were a blessed relief to see on our return home. Driving through IA and parts of MN always bring peace to my heart. I love rolling hills, corn fields, and wonderful farm houses that bring back lovely childhood memories.

I do think I might enjoy a vacation where we stay in one place for a few days, but this time it was good to keep on moving. I missed my time here though, and it is good to be back and caught up a bit on what is going on in your lives. :D

I thought you were a bit scarce around here!! I'm glad you had a good trip and it sounds wonderful.
I hope to get to that part of the country one day. :)

It sounds like you all had a wonderful trip, I like it when we are able to drive through scenic areas, they always seem so peaceful.

When the flowers are all in bloom is one of my favorite times for us to be on the road (there are a lot of very pretty places not far from where we are, not tourist attractions, just the way the land lays, )

Aww, that's great! At least you didn't have to come home for a rest after vacation. It sounds like this one was very peaceful and fun. :0)

It was a good trip, tiring but good. Thankfully dh had one day to rest before going back to work. Sleeping in one's own bed is a beautiful thing after 5 different beds along the way. ;)

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip.
Back 20 yrs ago after DH and I got married, we took one week, drove to Oregon to see his dad and his sisters and brother he had never met. He had met his dad a few years before. His mom and dad were divorced.
By the time we got through NM AZ CA, which CA was almost a day and a half because we needed sleep, it was already two days gone by before we got to Oregon and stayed 3 and traveled back and did our sight seeing on the way back, the painted dessert , grand canyon, hoover dam, those things,
We hope to maybe in a year or two go back to Oregon for another visit. One of DH's sisters lives in Colorado , I do not remember where.
