We took a vacation for the first time in 14 years. We've had some long and short trips over the years to weddings/funerals/family emergencies/helping others out, but no planned trip for our own enjoyment. We went from CO through NE to Council Bluffs, IA to visit my dh's Dad and stepMom. We then went through IA and visited my best friend, two of my Aunts and Uncles, then stopped for a family reunion for my Dad's side of the family. We had not been to one in 11 years, just before we moved to CO. We then went up to MN for the Mall of America since our 2 youngest were too young to remember time there when we lived 20 minutes from the MOA. We then went from MN to SD to Mount Rushmore and Evan's Plunge (a wonderful hotsprings pool). We then traveled back home.
We were gone 6 days. We saw everyone we had hoped to see and went everywhere we had planned on going. It was great seeing family and friends that we had not seen in years. The drives through NE and SD were LONG and the mountains were a blessed relief to see on our return home. Driving through IA and parts of MN always bring peace to my heart. I love rolling hills, corn fields, and wonderful farm houses that bring back lovely childhood memories.
I do think I might enjoy a vacation where we stay in one place for a few days, but this time it was good to keep on moving. I missed my time here though, and it is good to be back and caught up a bit on what is going on in your lives.
