My twins will each have 4 teeth removed before they can get braces.
I have to make their appointments soon.
(asap actually)
Before making that call I wanted to ask you all of your opinions.
My ds's will have two on top and two on bottom taken out. These are closer to the front and are NOT molars nor wisdom teeth. (They have too many teeth for their mouth.)

OK.. now should I have them scheduled on different days? My thinking is having one teen having that many teeth removed will be an adventure but both at the same time??
Also... what should I do before hand.. as in.. any special foods? Ice packs??
I'm totally clueless when it comes to teeth pulling and what they are in for.

Most dentists will advise dong them all on the same day as antibiotics will be involved etc

But do I take BOTH twins on the same day? I'm sure they will take out all the teeth at once, but I'm wondering how much they'll endure.. will *I* be able to handle both boys with them having that many teeth taken out at once?

I'm a big fan of efficiency.

When I got my wisdom teeth out, there were a few days that I was supposed to have a soft diet (scrambled eggs, ice cream, mashed potatoes , not chips etc) and special considerations (no drinking straws), and salt water rinse, etc. -

If I had two kids I'd rather have to prepare the special diet and do all that stuff once rather than twice.

And, you can compare their rates of recovery and have a better idea if one is headed for a problem like dry-socket rather than trying to remember how the other was a few weeks back.

But, you've had twins for 18 years - you know how you feel about consecutive or concurrent : )

I kinda like the idea of having one side done one time and the other side done another time so you can still chew on one side. OTOH, if it's a bad experience, you wouldn't want to go back in and do the other side! Being in misery once is a bit easier than twice.

Hmmm.

LOL! You'd think so, wouldn't you??

I have one that is a fainter. I am wondering if *I* could handle them both by myself.. getting them home, etc. How bad will they be? Will they be drugged? In Pain?? Able to walk unassisted?
They are both taller than me now, though I do still outweigh one of them (he's only 115 lbs so no, I'm not flattering myself, lol)

I'd prefer to have them both done and over on the same day, but the reality of it.. what if one has a problem and needs to see the dentist soon afterwards and the other is home needing me, and I can't be there for them both. That sort of thing.
I WISH I had someone to count on for help but that just doesn't happen.
I have NO IDEA what all is involved in having 4 teeth removed. :?

I think having the teeth pulled - rather than cut out like they sometimes have to do wisdom teeth - will mean they will be coherent and can walk in. I remember having the 4 teeth pulled back in the 70's when I got braces and it maybe slowed me down for dinner that evening but that was it. I would do both ds's the same day if it were me. Even if they give them some Valium or something before, they would be able to walk in afterwards. My dd had 4 teeth pulled at once. She was given Valium or something before hand and she was able to walk afterwards fine. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled (not cut out, just pulled) they gave me laughing gas and I could walk afterwards. I remember asking to stop at McDonalds on the way home LOL.

If I wasn't working so much I would come help you!

Aww thanks coastal Carol.
yes, it's just pulling, unless there is a problem.
I now it would be much more convenient to have to make only the one trip into the city instead of taking one and then going back a few days later with the other one. They are both arguing that if I do take them one at a time as to who will go first, lol!
My one ds said he'd go first but then the other said no way because once he sees how bad his brother is, he won't want to go himself later! They crack me up!!

I would do all teeth on both sons the same days. I'm a dental assistant and it isn't as bad as it sounds. Plus if one has a harder experience it may make the other more hesitant, not to mention mom. Praying that all goes very smoothly. Are they just getting general anesthesia or will they be put under?

ask the dentist if they will be knocked out or not, If not then at the same time, If yes, then you may need help getting them out of the car.
When dd had her wisdom teeth removed they helped her to put her in the car. But I had to get her out once home. Of course she had been knocked out for the extractions. Four teeth each and non are wisdom teeth. that is not leaving a lot of teeth left for braces.
