Ds was playing with another kid his age at the pool and the kid asked him what electronics he has and ds said "I don't have any electronics". The kid said, "That sucks! I have an Xbox, PSP, etc."

Well, we do have an Xbox just sitting in it's box, but are probably going to get rid of it because dh has finally outgrown video games! All it took was him not having time to play them! :D The last thing I want is for dh and ds to both get addicted to them. I just look at all the "adults" today living at home with their parents, not working a steady job, and playing video games all day (dh's brother comes to mind). I know that doesn't happen to everyone, but I just don't see the need to get that stuff for ds. I hope he won't resent us for it.

Plus, we currently don't even have a TV! Yep, we're prehistoric!

At least ds has been making lots of friends at the pool. He has his little greeting down by now. It's cute. "Hi, my name is Christian. I'm 7, almost 8, in the third grade and I'm homeschooled. How about you?"

That will be such a blessing to your children! We got rid of cable TV right after dh died in 2003 when the kids were 13, 10, 8, and 6. We still have a TV but we only watched learning videos and a "reward" of a movie on Saturdays for many, many years. Now we are addicted to Netflix. LOL.
What did the kids miss? Lots of cursing, examples of drama (the bad kind), bad family relationships, immorality, etc. No loss there!
Plus we played lots of board games, read together, and went outside. Definitely avoiding TV, video games, etc. is way better for the family!

I'm with y'all.

We ARE addicted to the computer, tho - gotta be honest on that one. And Little One gets lots ov videos that *we* choose on there, as well as on the dvd player.

But, no cable, no TV, and we can't stand video games. Your kids will thank you for it. It may take them a while, but they will get there. At least, that's what I'm gambling on with mine.

Oh, and don't forget to put the rock in your attic, so that when people ask if you live under a rock, you can answer honestly ; )

Since dh got his Ipod from the time he gets home till he goes to bed, he is on it. it really ticks me off. and he has to have the tv on all the time.
I watch the news at noon and maybe a dvd movie once in a while during the day and that is it.
In the evening I may watch a program I like.
DD does not watch much tv.

We got rid of satellite in July 2002 (ten years ago!) and haven't had sufficient broadcast signal since the analog-digital switch (three years ago!).

We have DVDs that we have bought, handpicked for being (relatively) wholesome, entertaining, etc. We have a computer that we bought back in 2000 that doesn't do terribly well on most of the internet (we have upgraded the OS, the RAM, the Hard Drive, the Graphics card, etc. but it is nearing the end of its usable life span) and no video game systems, iPads, smart phones, etc.

Our 6 year old occasionally asks about things she sees that others have, but we have been able to keep a relatively high level of contentment with a relatively low level of technology. Our next purchases in that realm will likely be a Kindle (we currently use a Kindle reader on our computer to read some stuff) and an upgrade to our home computer.

We are a little addicted to the internet, too. I would like to get Netflix. I'm thinking we might do that when my mom gets here and then we would just get a TV and use it for that.
