Here's what I found on the State Farm site.

Good Student Discount
All male and unmarried female drivers under 25 who are full-time students in high school or at a college or university, and the scholastic records for the immediately preceding school semester show that this student meets at least one of the following:
Ranked scholastically in the upper 20% of his or her class.
Had a grade average of B or higher.
Had a grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher.
Was included in the Dean's List or Honor Roll.

Persons under age 25 who have graduated from a four-year college or university and have a cumulative scholastic record meeting the above requirements may also be considered.

Students who are enrolled in a home study program may qualify if they satisfy the scholastic requirement by submitting evidence that they ranked in the upper 20% on one of the following national standardized tests, administered within the last 12 months:
PSAT
PLAN
SAT-1
ACT
TAP
California Achievement Test
Note: Proof of eligibility is required when an application for insurance is submitted.

Looks like my office didn't follow what is on the site.

My youngest dd (28yo) was driving her new big truck this summer and squealing it around a beach - even thru the water - while I was with her. I think she was trying to scare me but her truck felt so safe and she was so confident (and I know she wouldn't hurt her truck!), that I wasn't a bit nervous. hehehe

As for the schools - we have a local school that fired all their teachers this spring. They've only hired back a few and are "waiting" to see if the levy passes before hiring more. I think it's a scare tactic to make the parents vote for the levy.

Discounts vary from state to state not by just insurance companies. USAA gives discount for drivers ed in other states but NC will not allow them to in this state so no discount. There are other discounts that they give in other states including rebates but because of NC laws they can't do it here. That is probably why those of you with the same insurance company are being told or not told different things. It's the states that set the way the insurance companies bill you not the insurance company. The good thing about NC is that the better rates when they turn 21 rule can't be enforced here. In NC the insurance company has to base the rate they charge drivers on their actual driving record so every 6 months my kids go without an accident (up to a certain point of course and that includes us as well) are rate goes down. Dd's is now at the same level as ours and she has only been driving for 3 years. Ds just dropped $75 and it's only been 6 months since he got put on our insurance. Bad thing is even though they had great GPA's and both took driver's ed we couldn't get a discount because insurance companies aren't allowed to do that in NC. Bummer. Anyway the point of all this is that it's not necessarily the insurance companies fault that what one person gets is different from someone else in another state. It's the states that make the laws under which the insurance company must operate.

Well.. I've been too embarrassed to post an update.
He was supposed to get up this morning and wake me up before his shower. I was awakened by the cat at 8:30. We were supposed to be AT the DMV at 8.
I got up and aske ds what was the deal??
Well.. he said he didn't get any sleep last night and was too tired to go.
SO, he didn't go. He didn't even attempt to get ready to go after I really had a fit with him.
What am I going to do??? I'm just sick of this kind of laziness.
He says I'm mad at him all the time. I just want him to get up off his duff and DO something productive. (I've already taken away the PS3.)
GO ahead and throw tomatoes at me now.

Don't beat yourself up over it, Tory - tomorrow is another day! And, if that doesn't work, there's always Monday. (Think Marathon instead of Sprint ; )

How did you prove the GPA?? They are saying here that they have to be in the top 20% and the only thing I had was an old Stat 10 test he did at the end of last school year.
I didn't have them tested this past year.
They wouldn't take "my" scores. GA stinks when it comes to home schoolers.
They even have to have a GED to get into college here. :(

Here in Texas for she was still in high school , I sent them a copy of her transcript, and you have to have a GPA on it., look up on google it tells you how to do on. For college I sent a copy of her transcript with her grades for the first summer semester.

The discount had nothing to do with the state of FL, only with what State Farm required of me. I told them that I homeschooled and they said to bring a transcript. I created one, signed it and they accepted it with no questions asked. State Farm requires them to have a 3.0 GPA. They told me that if she hadn't had the 3.0 GPA the premium would have been $48 more per month.

you do not want to live in Texas when it comes to car insurance.
We have full coverage on both cars. Our insurance went up 22 hundred dollars a year with a discount , for full coverage with her and me driving the Civic.
They all say we give discounts for good driving , bull , ours always seems to go up. they have some dumb excuse. We have them take it out of DH's check so we do not have to come up with the 3200 dollars in full and not pay installment charges.

He has to do it sooner or later. you do not get a whole lot of chances to take the test. If he could not get up he should of made an afternoon appointment. With all the paper work he is going to need to get the insurance discount, he might ought to wait till he gets all that in his hand first. I would. If he has to take a test and get the results back before going to the insurance company for insurance then he needs to work on that and forget about the driving test . But when he wants to take it, sign him up for afternoon test.
When dd and I were up at the DMV last week getting the provisional removed, there were dozens and dozens of teenagers taking the test.
Get that test ordered now and then you have to wait a few weeks to get the results back anyway.

He wanted me to take him today and I refused.
DMV on a Fri is about the worst thing in the world to do. I can't go in the afternoons because they are SO packed already by then no matter what day it is.
We'll try again next week.
They are closed on Monday, ds's both have Ortho. appointments on Tues. So the earliest he can go again will be Wed. morning. It's his own fault he has to wait so long.
As for the insurance, it's just going to be what it is. He's paying the difference out of his own pocket. If he doesn't get a job then he'll drain his savings in no time. He's just going to have to learn from real life on this one.
