I "play" the piano but have never taught anybody to actually play. My kids all learned some things from watching and a few tips but not actually to play.

One of the first things that came up was the pedals! I know most people only use the sustain pedal. But, how to teach when to press it down? I think I was taught to lift my foot at every bar? (I was 5 when I started piano and that was 100 years ago!)

Anybody have a different idea?
