All my life, I've read Esther, and read about Esther and "known" that it was the one book of the Bible that doesn't mention God. But then, DH found a translation of Esther from the Septuagint (which is the official version of the Old Testament for Orthodox Christians since, well, forever.) - and God is ALL THROUGH IT! Seems to me that God isn't "missing" but rather, He was "edited out" |

I didn't read this translation closely - just skimmed it - but this seems to have the Septuagint portions (note, we still have the Esther you have, too - we just ALSO have this, for lack of a better word, supplement ) http://www.magister.msk.ru/library/bible/english/web/GkEsther.htm |

I remember protestants (Luther?) wanting to remove the Book of Esther from the Canon of scripture because of that. Oddly, today some Lutherans carry around the deuterocanonical books in their bibles, saying they are profitable for faith and morals but not doctrine. |
