Scott, I'm going to honor Alex's request to let it go.

Anna, is there a reason for fasting on Wednesday and Friday?

I'm cautious about answering due to the sensitive nature of this topic for some- so any further questions we will deal with by PM. And I will keep this reply strictly factual, without inserting any personal commentary.

Christians have traditionally fasted on Wednesday in memory of Christ's betrayal by Judas, and on Friday in memory of His Crucifixion.

It is worth noting that when Orthodox Christians say "Fast" we seldom mean total abstention from food and drink, but rather a partial fast from certain food products (meat, poultry, dairy, eggs) and from gluttony in general.

I think it's pretty cool to note that in the Didache (which was probably written while the apostles were still alive; it is dated 50-120 A.D.), fasting on Wednesday and Friday was already noted as being practiced in the church. "But let not your fasts be with the hypocrites, for they fast on the second and fifth day of the week. Rather, fast on the fourth day and the Preparation (Friday)."

Sis, what do you mean? :?:

I just saw this. Sorry. It's been awhile but I think I was first responding to the original question - why fast? And I was pointing out that Jesus told his disciples that certain things didn't happen without fasting and somehow increases effectiveness/power.
