Post subject:  I am new at church :/

I was tagged to join the efforts of the missions and outreach board. We have monthly meetings. It started off nicely. The last two meetings I can see where this church is not lead like the last one I attended. I am used to boards running autonomously with pastoral oversight. Here the pastor is driving his agenda. We all gave our reports. While the chairwoman was explaining the goals of missions (sharing the gospel) the pastor and assoc pastor where passing notes via their phones to each other. It got heated between the chairwoman and the pastors as they questioned everything she said. Nothing was accomplished, the meeting was adjourned and everyone left very quickly.

It was obvious that the pastor just wants a pastor friend to come and speak at a missions event and vacation here, regardless of whether the mission board feels it would be right for this congregation (muslim outreach). The board would ordinarily foot the bill, but the pastors say they would.

Other things were said at the meeting that have me concerned. A lady's group that meets monthly for devotion and who organize meals and funeral refreshments was berated and the pastor suggested they no longer meet(?) Really? I wonder if he is ok. This was just so out of the ordinary for me it was surreal.

Time to look for another church.

If you like the Church otherwise, why don't you go talk to the Pastor one-on-one and express your concerns. The situation might be more complex than it appears on the surface. And, if you SHOULD leave, that will be clear, and the Pastor will understand why - and maybe be motivated to change in time.

I started going there last August. I know the chairwoman because she runs the local Bible Study Fellowhip where we just wrapped up studying Romans.

She was having him screened for ADHD and they tested him for cocaine? Is that normal?
