I never made this connection and had my mind was just a little bit blown this morning! We were doing ds's Bible study. Not the one we do at church, but one I bought to do together at home (Christian Studies from Memoria Press). I was reading Genesis 3 and in my teacher book it makes a note about Genesis 3:15 and draws a connection I never made before. God is cursing the serpent and the verse says:

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."

My simple mind just thought this meant we would step on snakes and they would bite us, lol! But it makes sense that there would be more to this, since this isn't just your average garden snake He's talking to.

My book says this is prophetic, talking about the war between Satan and humanity, and a future defeat for Satan. It says the seed of the woman bruised the head of the serpent because the serpent and his seed have brought sin and death into the world, but Christ defeated the serpent when his resurrection destroyed the power of death. Then it says the serpent bruised His heel because he instigated the plot that brought about the death of Christ.

Then it gives a reference to Romans 16:20:

"And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of your Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."

My Bible also makes the connection in cross references. I thought this was really interesting, especially since we're starting a Bible study at church that shows the connection to Christ throughout the Bible and here is one right in the first few chapters of the Bible that I've read over and over and missed!
