This must be a favorite Lutheran book in the Bible. I lost count how many times it's been covered in Sunday school. That said, I learn something new every time. This time it was the names of God, both Elohim (God) and Yahweh (LORD) as used in Jonah. And poor Jonah. I think God has a sense of humor, to send him a vine, knowing he is going to be in the sun along time waiting for God's wrath to descent on Ninevah. Then allowing the vine to wither. Why was Jonah so angry? He didn't like to see God's mercy? Especially showered on not-His-people? We're the Jews so insular? God's love and mercy is for everyone.

The Ninevites were a little hard to forgive https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/f4af/bb82f1b7920fa9444e29eb128bd13832cd46.pdf
No different than Hitler, Stalin, Mao or Kim.
I'm afraid I would have been no better at it than Jonah was!
