I have no problem underlining or writing in my bible. Some of the most profound things that God has taught me are written in my bibles.

I am not a doodler or a journaler. I can barely draw a stick figure and my doodles consist of squares and triangles. I like to think about journaling, but it's too self instrospective and I do that enough without making a point of writing all that stuff down. However, I have appreciated other people's journals and memoirs so I don't rule out that they're not good for something.

A good friend of mine is an artist and art teacher. She doodles and draws during the pastor's sermon. She has said that it helps her connect the words to the scripture to her mind. I got a glimpse of her journals one day and they are absolutely amazing at how she captures the message and the scripture at the same time. I had them in my possession for a day and I was so tempted to show my pastor. He would have been blown away, but they weren't mine to share. Having seen it for myself and hear from her about how it works its way out in her, I'm all for it if that's how God has created them.
