I received this link tonight to a video for teaching children about the real St. Nicholas.

Our kids have their shoes on the fireplace hearth waiting to be filled overnight in honor of this holy man of God.

And to you! The video reminded me of our trip to Turkey and the beautiful icons we saw. :)

Happy St. Nicholas Day!

St. Nicholas is the Patron of our Church - so its a BIG day here! But, at our house he drops the gifts into the stocking on his own way home from Liturgy (after all, he's a Bishop - he HAS to go to Liturgy! ; ) (that way he can drop off edibles without messing with the fast, and toys or trinkets without making anyone too excited to focus on Liturgy ; )

He must've stopped at our place in the wee morning hours on the way TO Liturgy ;) . It was a sweet, special morning commemorating him as we started the day; we of course didn't eat the treats that the kids found in their shoes until after we got home later that afternoon.

Our almost 16yo son played the role of St. Nicholas after church, dressed in a reader's cassock, white wig/beard and the black hat that priests wear sometimes, handing out gifts to all the children.
