Post subject:  A story to think over

A few weeks ago, our Priest shared a story during the sermon that keeps coming to mind. I thought I'd share it here so that perhaps someone else will benefit from it like I did. (Unfortunately, he originally read the story years ago, and could not cite its source. )

Many centuries ago, there was a wealthy queen who greatly loved God. To thank Him for his mercy toward her, she decided to have a beautiful Church built. After the Church building was complete and all the Icons were done and adorned the interior, she had a dedication service for the Church to dedicate it to God.

Her strong, young son was serving in the Army, and he was called home to participate in the festivities.

The dedication service was beautiful, and the Queen, her son and all the people were greatly touched by the beauty of the Church, and looked forward to years of worshipping God there.

But, that night, the Queen's son fell ill with a fever. Before he could return to his military duty, this strong young man in the prime of life passed away.

The Queen was devastated. She loved God, she served Him, she gave Him her best - then it appeared to her, God rejected her and her gift, dealing her this horrible painful blow. She wept and fasted for days, seeking God, trying to figure out what she had done wrong and how she had offended God.

Finally, God asked her what it was she wanted? She said she only had one request - the return of her beloved son.

Just then, an Angel appeared with her son. But, instead of going to embrace his mother, the boy embraced the feet of the angel, begging the angel not to force him to leave!

The Queen then realized that what appeared to her to be a horrible blow, (and her bereavement was very painful) was a great blessing to her son. And, because her son was happy in God's presence, it was also a blessing to her. Her son was enjoying eternal salvation.
