Have your kids learned about these things? (Have you?) How do you discuss them with your kids?

There's nothing new here. People have been slandering God ever since Eden. (Why, oh why do you surf by this junk, Sis? ) This guy's particular allegations are rewarmed so often they must have botulism by now! I mean, how many times does the Church have to deal with the same lies?

His "nearly identical" title reminds me of one of my Sisters, who is adopted. We bear absolutely NO physical resemblance to one another (among other things, wer are of different ethnicities). Yet, when I introduced her to people when we were growing up, people would always say, "Oh, yes, I can see how much you look alike" and my Mom would say, "What, they both have two eyes, a nose and a mouth?"

At this point, the only thing I really tell DD is that there ARE fake gods out there -and that they appear a lot in history. And, that their stories have a big impact on modern culture (for instance, several planets were named for them).

She doesn't need to know every lie people have told about God until she asks - or until we do an apologetics course when she is much older.

Here's a good start, if this stuff really interests you

http://www.jonsorensen.net/2012/10/25/h ... onnection/

Many Missionaries of previous centuries, BTW - including St. Paul - found that the Pagan myths prepared people's hearts for the truth. Looking for something on that . . .

OH, I know there's nothing new here! This, from the article you posted, is why I bring it up: Often Christians are not prepared for this type of encounter, and some are even swayed by this line of argumentation

BTW - I did not go looking for any of this. ;-)

Yeah, I know you didn't, Sis (go looking for it, that is) ! : ) I've never seen you bring up something totally off the wall without later learning that it was from some not-you source : )

I found "Don't Check Your Brains at the Door" at the thrift store, and I'm considering either that or "More than a Carpenter" to introduce DD to basic apologetics topics - but not till she's a little older ; )

I DO agree with you that if your kids have never encountered this sort of garbage before - enuf to know that the world WILL confront them with it - they can really be thrown by it. It's a great reminder : )

I searched a lot for the "truth" during my jr hi years. One of the books that I read was "Chariots of the God's". I was really into tabloid thinking and sensational reports of UFO's and near-death experiences and Atlantis and theories like those in Chariots. I'm still fascinated by things like those but I'm thankful for the book "Crash go the Chariots" that taught me to take it all with a grain of salt. Through the years as I've watched "scientific evidence" be interpreted different ways I've come to appreciate how the Word of God never changes. It still says the same thing I read in jr hi!!! :o Go figure. When things are discovered that "discredit" something in the Bible I found that if I just waited a few years it would all shake out. The best science always agrees with the Bible.

I still have to tell myself that when my *feelings* don't match what God's Word tells me is true. I have to say, "Self, God probably knows more than you". :ugeek:

Funny. My reading this morning was 1 Tim 4:7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

Reminds me of a Preacher I once knew who said something to the effect: Coincidence is the world's term for Providence.
