as part of my job. It was a big church in Atlanta. I really appreciated the message. He preached on Mark 14, where Jesus goes off by Himself go pray, three times, before he is betrayed into the hands of the Pharisees. The speaker noted that the answer to Jesus' prayer was not a change in outcome as He'd requested, but a change in Jesus himself. He had been asking for God to set him free from having to endure the cross. He prayed for this release three times. But when the accusers showed up, a change had occurred within himself -- He said, "Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand." He had been asking to be released, and now He said, "Rise up, let us go" -- the change had occurred within himself; now he was saying "Let's go forth." And not only that, but right into the hands of the betrayer. The speaker summarized by saying prayer is not always about getting a specific outcome, but about changing within ourselves so that we can face whatever God puts before us.

Where is the like button?
This is something I keep bringing up in my Sunday School class. That we are COMMANDED to pray, not so God will change his mind, he is ALWAYS sovereign, but so that we will be changed. So that our relationship with God is closer, that we focus on the things of God and not the things of the world.
That is an excellent example!

Amen! That IS what prayer is about. His will, His way, His timing. If we are open to that, and want to be able to be what we need to be to move through life in His will, then it is usually we who need transformation, not the circumstances.

I have a book I keep prayers in. I pray them and add to them all the time. Mark off the ones I know have been answered.
I sit at red lights now and pray for the people in the cars next to me. That they drive safely and have a blessed day.
The ones not driving so nicely I pray that God wakes them up and protects everyone around them. Some one has to pray for these people.

Where's the LOVE button!

I often speak on prayer and God gave me a vivid picture that He doesn't just want to hear our Amazon wish-list on prayer, but He wants to melt our hearts and forever change us by His presence from our time spent with Him in prayer.

It doesn't mean we can't ask God to do something, but ultimately, it is up to Him to do the "doing"...

Thank you for sharing this Darla! I just had lunch with our women's ministry shepherd today @ church and we talked about what prayer isn't.

I love this Darla. The Lord has been speaking this to me as I battle the direction to take with church. The word of faith doctrine has left me feeling so inadequate with so little faith. I love knowing that it is He that is in control and not me. I want to be in HIS will and not Him in mine. My will can only lead to destruction. Thank-you for sharing.

Jenileigh, my husband and I really relate to much of what you wrote here. I would be happy to converse with you privately about WOF. You put into words very eloquently how I was feeling in WOF, too. Hugs to you, my friend.
