Martha, I think a parallel would be great! But, I can't imagine the SIZE of a large print parallel, can you?! LOL I'll keep my eye out.

I'm a sucker for pretty colors - the cover, the maps, the illustrations and pics. I have to be careful not to get drawn in by "pretty". I could get that nice NIV in a pretty turquoise for $85 or the same thing in black for $40. Hmmmmm.

I'm just the opposite! I would pay EXTRA to get black!

Mom gave me my *best* Bible for a high school graduation gift. She bought a burgundy covered one. First thing I did was went out to buy a nice black cover for it : )

Why, Anna? Do you just like black or does it have some significance for you?

I *probably* wouldn't pay an extra $45 for a "pretty" color if the rest is the same. It kind of irks me that they do that tho'. I can't imagine a colorful cover costs more than double the black. bleh

I never thought about it. I guess I just like black for things that I like to be neutral. Shoes, purses, coats, umbrellas, books, and yes, my Bible (altho I do have a charming little purse sized one with an adventurous *grey* cover ; ) I generally like to keep a low profile, visually speaking.

I can really relate to then Nun I spoke with several years ago who said (speaking of her habit) -"I really like to know exactly what I'm going to wear when I get up every morning"

Ahhh, I see. I'm not a black person. (LOL) My "black" is brown and sometimes navy. But, as I said, I love color! :)

Upon further pondering, in my Calvinist upbringing, Religious things were supposed to be black (like the Clergyman's Robes, for instance).

I have to admit, a Turquoise - or Purple Bible just doesn't *seem* right. Despite the fact that the Gospels used in our Orthodox Church services usually have a beautiful gold cover - often adorned with jewels & Icons. That's wonderful in Church - I still feel like my home copy should be a nice, comfortable black.

Sometimes what we learn as children just *sticks*!

I had a white Bible when I was little. I used it when we went to church at easter time. ;-) When I got older we started going to church regularly and I remember cutting out little orange and brown leaves and taping them to the front for some fall color. :)

Well, my fav Bible fell apart after 6yrs of BSF. It was a 1959 World Bible, KVJ with chapter headings and zillions of cross-refs and maps, etc. Great study Bible until the book of John literally fell out. I was able to repair it and just use it when needed. My current fav is a Spanish Reina-Valera 1960/KJV that has no extras, hence my backup Bible. Its helped me keep focused and I love having the Spanish text right there for comparison or clarification. Funny, I have found some passages in the KJV that are totally off base but find the Spanish matches up to the original Hebrew/Greek.

Like my Olive Tree on my computer and iPad. You can chafe the font sieze, highlight and make notes. Love it. Notes taken in one version will automatically transfer to the other versions you have

I go with NKJV and NASB for most of my print Bible usage (both of them were done by larger committees which tends to even out or eliminate political/doctrinal differences). I tend to sit behind the computer and use http://www.blueletterbible.org/ for much of my research when doing in depth study, preparing for classes/sermons, etc. They have most major translations online and searchable and they show you the original Greek (or Hebrew) and in the places where different sets of manuscripts have slightly different Greek they will even show multiple versions of the Greek and point out which translations use which of the sets of manuscripts.

I like NASB. It was the first Bible I was introduced to and have just always used it. I read KJV sometimes, or NKJ, but prefer NASB. I really like the Inductive Study Bible that Precept Ministries has published, but they aren't made very well and they fall apart after about 8-10 years. I'm on my 3rd one. It has a wide margin and a place to name each chapter during your own study and mini bible studies within the Bible without using commentaries, so you can truly search the Holy Scriptures for whatever truths God wants you to find within.
